174 A # 2 St Philip Street backs up to King Street and is 1/3 mile to Calhoun Street in unique ST PHILIP SQUARE. This TUCKED away from the street, stylish apartment is perfect for two couples or a family with children.

It is part of a larger group of short term rentals known as St Philip Square. It can be rented alone or combined with a number of other rentals for a wedding group, a family reunion or a corporate retreat. There is free parking with more parking available on request. We have a Walk Score of 94, meaning this location is a "Walker's Paradise” with no need for a car. Park and walk!


LOCATION
This property is located in the "short term overlay" designated by this neighborhood and the city as legal for this type of rental. This building is on the most southern edge of the "overlay" which means it as as close to the Calhoun/South of Broad area as you can legally be (with a few exceptions), It is not always obvious what the difference in location is.

This unit is located in the back of the photographed building, on the first floor. It faces a courtyard situated between two buildings. This building was awarded the prestigious Carolopolis Award in 1999 for historic preservation when it underwent extensive renovation by the present owner. Today the owner is completing another outstanding renovation upgrading every feature of the apartment while retaining the authentic character of the space.

There are two lovely BEDROOMS, one with ensuite bathroom and one with the bathroom right across the hall. It is a private bathroom but also is available as a guest bathroom if the sofa bed is used. The bathrooms feature marble and shiplap siding and all brand new fixtures. The washer/dryer is found in the back bedroom. The bedrooms are stylish and attractive with brand new bedding and high end linens. Both bedrooms have brand new KING size beds.

It is possible to add an extra person or two on the sofa bed and use the second bathroom but a special feature of this apartment is the chance for each couple to have their own private bathroom and not share!

LIVING
The apartment is entered into the "gathering" space consisting of a living room with brand new queen, gel mattress sofa bed, attractive chairs and a gracious dining table with chairs. The dining area creates an "L" leading into the well stocked kitchen with quartz counter tops and stainless steel appliances. The brand new kitchen is gorgeous and well supplied.

OUTSIDE
From the courtyard and parking area you enter the charming porch and then the living room. The porch is dedicated to this apartment and provides a pleasant place for reading the paper with your morning coffee or sipping an evening cocktail.
The courtyard is like a secret garden, tucked away from the street. It is available to several apartments creating a space where you can be with others in your group who are renting different apartments or you might have the opportunity to socialize and meet fellow travelers.

THE AREA
The Cannonborough/Elliotborough neighborhood has become the hottest, most vibrant area in town. The list of popular nearby RESTAURANTS is amazing. The Grocery, Hominy Grill, Five Loaves, Chez Nous, Wild Flour Bakery, The Macintosh, Sugar Bake Shop, Canon Green, Goulette Bistro, D'Alessandros Pizza, Fuel, The Darling Oyster are just some we could list. You can find anything that suits your fancy.

There are also numerous SHOPS and Boutiques in walking distance--West Elm, Beads on Cannon, Filigree, Mac and Murphy, Indigo and Cotton. There are day spas, salons and nearby yoga studios. MUSC and Roper Hospital are also within walking distance

The College of Charleston campus with live oaks dripping with Spanish moss is a few blocks south. The Marion Square market held every Saturday is also a few blocks away as is the popular children's Museum. MUSC is a few blocks away and The Citadel is a little further north.

ACROSS THE BRIDGES
However, if the Beach calls, you can easily access highway 17 north to Sullivans Island and the Isle of Palms, or south to Folly Beach, Kiawah Island or Wadmalaw Island. That route will also take you to the famous plantations and historic houses (Drayton Hall, Middleton Place, Magnolia Gardens).

We have a unique offering for wedding groups, family reunions, business retreats, friends traveling together, honeymooners, anniversary celebrants or families with kids.

ST PHILIP SQUARE offers 8 properties within a "square" that opens onto a shared parking area. Each apartment is a separate unit with unique characteristics. It is the perfect opportunity for groups of all sizes to organize a joint rental but each apartment is separate and is its own place.

Location

Cannonborough is a vibrant and exciting area of historic Charleston. From our apartment you can reach the Battery in 30 minutes so you can tell the entire area is relatively small and manageable. “South of Broad” is the quietest and most residential area with amazing, world famous mansions. In contrast, the Cannonborough area is full of restaurants, shops, boutiques and bars and is considered the “happening” part of town. It too has its share of important house museums (the Manigault House is a few blocks away). The famous Charleston Museum is across from the Manigault House and the very popular Children’s Museum is also in this area. Or you may pass through the College of Charleston with its Spanish-moss-draped trees a few blocks from the apartment on your stroll to the Battery.

We rented this property for a girls weekend. For four of us it was perfect! Two bedrooms, two bathrooms. Everything was very clean, the decor was very nice. The bed was nicer than my bed at home. The kitchen has updated appliances and everything was in working order. The exterior was very beautiful in Mid October - there were trees with flowers on them in the front. The porch was very cozy and it wasn’t very noisy. The location was excellent. You can walk one block to King St. All in all we loved it and would highly recommend!

We stayed with another couple for a long weekend in Charleston. The location was absolutely perfect as we were able to walk to all the great restaurants and shopping centers the house was very clean and well stocked and the outdoor patio was a definite bonus. We will definitely be coming back to stay here again.

The property is very clean, updated, and convenient to Charleston sightseeing. Despite being in a popular area, the unit is surprisingly quiet. It was convenient for walking down King Street to dining, shopping, and attractions.

I loved that this condo was part of St. Philip Square, knowing there were lots of rentals right near us. The one we stayed in was so cute, modern and had everything we needed. Two fabulous kind beds and spacious showers, great kitchen, and plenty of space. We loved it!

Wonderful home base from which we explored the city with good friends. We loved the clean apartment with beautiful decor and sparkling amenities. We could easily walk to everything we wanted to see, and if someone got tired it was an easy Uber ride. All important details were communicated to us well ahead of time. Ample parking was a huge perk in this area. We cooked breakfast here each morning and then were off to enjoy our day. Why are you still reading?!

The house was very clean. The location was great. Beds were comfortable and the decor was super cute. We had one very small issue, a missing battery in the TV remote and I called and management was there within five minutes with a new battery! Our stay was perfect! We would stay here again.
